Woodsprite Hooded Coat – A New Pattern and Knit-Along

These past few days have been just a bit chilly, so it’s appropriate that my knitting has rarely left my lap. Aside from a picture session for my new pattern (which we immediately followed up with hot chocolates all around), we’ve kept indoors. It’s still frigid today, and there are several inches of snow of the ground, but that’s not going to stop us from getting out of the house, at least for a little while. We all need some fresh, albeit, cold, air.

Before this spell of arctic weather, it seemed like winter had passed us over this year. Nothing more than a few flakes of snow had fallen, and earlier this month it felt like spring was already here. The cold snap reminds me that we still have several wintry weeks before cherry blossoms signal the end of the bitter cold. I can’t be too upset about this, because it’s high sweater season, and I am a knitter.

All those sweater I’ve been knitting for my daughter she now wears nearly constantly, especially my most recent finish – a sample for my new Woodsprite Hooded Coat Pattern. This coat was an absolute pleasure to design and knit. It’s my first design that’s all stockinette (with just a little bit of garter stitch ). It’s pure comfort knitting, with a few fun details along the way. My favorites are the pockets knit from contrasting yarn and the icord edging with built-in button loops.

The coat also has a pleat at the back and it’s knit entirely from the top down, starting with the hood. The a-line shape is perfect for twirling – I think that’s Addie’s favorite part.

I knit up the final sample in my favorite superwash worsted weight yarn from Neighborhood Fiber Co. Even though it is merino, and soft, the tight ply makes for a bouncy yarn that doesn’t pill nearly as badly as other merino varieties. And the color palette is gorgeous. I used the Columbus Circle colorway, which speaks to my daughter’s inner Elsa.

The pattern is now available as a prerelease on Ravelry in anticipation of the woodsprite hooded coat knit-along I will be hosting on Ravelry and Instagram starting on March 1st. When you buy the pattern between now and the end of the day (EST) on Friday, February 20th, you’ll get $1.00 off with the code “woodspritekal.” The preview has all the information oyu need to choose your yarn, swatch, and pick out notions so you are ready to go when the KAL begins.
